The Gospel of Mark explains how Jesus, Israel’s Messiah and Lord, redeems captive Israel from the shackles of sin and death and plants them in the land of the new creation. For the saints to arrive in the new creation wherein God dwells, humanity and creation must be purified and renewed. Benjamin Gladd addresses Jesus’ identity as the Holy One who prepares the covenant community for the presence of God. Jesus, too, is the Son of Man who reigns over the mysterious arrival of the kingdom. Dr. Gladd also speaks to how what Jesus inaugurated in His first coming will be consummated in His second coming.

Benjamin Gladd (PhD, Wheaton College) is professor of New Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi. He is the author or coauthor of several books, including From Adam and Israel to the Church, The Story Retold: A Biblical-Theological Introduction to the New Testament (with G. K. Beale), and Handbook on the Gospels. He also edits the Essential Studies in Biblical Theology, co-edits the New Studies in Biblical Theology with D. A. Carson, and serves on the editorial board of Themelios.
