“Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him! Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth…” 1 Chronicles 16:29-30a
What is the chief end of man? The Westminster Shorter Catechism’s first question was wisely answered this way: “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.” The worship of God is a command He has given to His creatures, but our sinfulness makes worship difficult: we worship the wrong things, or else we worship the right object—God—in ways that He has not directed. Everyone is, at heart, a worshiper; the only question is whether we worship the right object in the right fashion.
