All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. -- 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Throughout the Scriptures, the authority and inerrancy of the Word of God are made clear. The apostle Paul cut a cross section through the whole edifice of his thinking in the Book of Romans to show us that the foundation for all his teaching is the Word of God. Such phrases “as it is written” and “for it is written” appear throughout the epistle. And the writer of the Epistle to the Hebrews bases all his concepts on the Old Testament.
However, this doctrine is not popular in our day. Ecclesiastical leaders and theologians alike discount the appeal to the Bible as the final authority, even while paying lip service to orthodox statements concerning the Word of God. Dr. Barnhouse addresses these issues in "The Bible Under Attack."
