Beginning with the Old Testament priesthood, one of the fundamental requirements for leadership in ministry was the ability “to distinguish between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean” (Leviticus 10:10). Those in ministry were commanded again and again to “sanctify themselves” (Exodus 19:22, 28:41; Leviticus 21:8, II Chronicles 29:5).
