Trusting God Even When Life Hurts
Where is God when you are hurting? Why do bad things happen to people?
Why do the wicked seemingly prosper when individuals who endeavor to
be moral and upstanding citizens are consistently harassed, victimized, and
even killed? How do you explain the unexplainable for those searching for
answers? All of these contribute to a sense of fatalism that God probably
does not exist, and if He does He doesn’t really care that much about what is
happening on Earth. It becomes painfully clear when we encounter suffering
that we would prefer to be in charge.
However, Jesus’ promise does not indicate the elimination of all suffering from
our lives, but rather the confident assurance that He is with us throughout
our pain. Suffering is real, but God’s sovereignty is also real. Through the
cross of Christ, there can be joy and contentment while in the midst of
sorrow because Jesus has overcome death, the grace and even Hell itself.
The believer can have hope that while suffering will occur in this world, the
Most High God have overcome the world and all its pain. May our rest be in
Him who remains the God of all comfort. Soli Deo Gloria!
